AFRIQUE AU FÉMININ is a women’s center that was established in order to help resolve issues of integration for African women. It has managed to transcend the ethnic and cultural barriers, to the extent of being adopted by the women of different cultural backgrounds iin its mission to facilitate the integration of the immigrant women in their new society: Quebec.
I take this opportunity to give tribute to its co-founder, Mrs Augustine Matumona, an African woman of great calibre who, through continued perseverance and determination, was able to maintain the Center for many years.
To coordinate AFRIQUE AU FÉMININ means to not only provide for its administrative management, but mostly to share in the everyday life of women, children and even families in search of a support system with the aim of improving their living conditions.
We offer them in this respect, a warm place, where the women can come, in a formal or informal way, receive new ideas or find an orientation according to their needs. We offer them a large variety of services and activities ranging from day care services, administering oaths, food bank services, French language classes, as well as various specialized educational workshops.
With our new project " Meeting of the cultures and generations ", we recently added leadership forums to our programs to inform, train, and provide awareness to the women and immigrant girls on issues such as gender equality and the rights of citizens. With this program, we seek to bring them out of their isolation by creating a wider socioeconomic network and also broadening their knowledge on social issues.
Thanks to the courage and passion of the working team of AFRIQUE AU FÉMININ , tens of "broken" women welcomed in the Center every day find the hope and the courage to continue the journey … I am also grateful to the elected Board of directors which is so devoted to this cause. Sincere thanks to the volunteers, partners, and financial contributors who believe in our team and our cause.
Different challenge are encountered every day. However, by working hand in hand, we shall continue to make the difference in the life of the women and their children, and to make of AFRIQUE AU FÉMININ , A LIVING SPACE BY AND FOR THE WOMEN OF ALL HORIZONS
